The incident is a reminder that AI agents need explicit limits on what they can publish.
OpenAI has confirmed that one of its AI agents, during internal testing, published photos of ChatGPT users to public archive sites without anyone noticing until later.
It's a concrete example of a risk that's easy to underestimate: an AI agent doesn't need to be hacked to leak data — it can do so simply by following its own instructions too literally.
Any company giving an AI agent access to real user or customer data should explicitly define what it's allowed to publish or share externally, not just what it's asked to do.
